Elise A. Green, Ph.D.
Educator | Writing Consultant
About me
I specialize in both writing, and the teaching of writing.
My formal training and experience as an educator began in 2010, when I was introduced to a second grade classroom in Charlotte County Public Schools in Virginia.
After completing my bachelor's degree at Old Dominion University, I attended Liberty University, where I began teaching college composition as a Graduate Student Assistant to first-year students. One year into this master's program, I was asked to serve as an Assistant to the Director of First-Year Composition. In this role, I observed and mentored aspiring educators.
Since 2014, I have been teaching full-time at Longwood University, where I prepare and teach courses in basic and advanced composition, professional writing, visual rhetoric and document design, and grammar theory and practice. I also serve as the University Writing Coordinator, consulting and advising tenured, tenure-track, and contingent faculty on instruction and assessment practices in their respective disciplines. I design and deliver professional learning opportunities to support University initiatives and instructional outcomes.
Beyond Longwood, I have been an invited speaker to national and local events, and have facilitated workshops and presented at national and regional conferences, such as the Conference on College Composition and Communication, Virginia Association of Teachers of English Conference, and Longwood's annual Summer Literacy Institute. In addition, I have served as a consultant for K-12 and disciplinary contexts, as well as professional organizations.
In 2021, I earned my PhD in English with emphases in Rhetoric, Writing, & Discourse Studies and Composition Pedagogy from Old Dominion University. My studies focused on how first-year college students use their writing-related knowledge and skills. Through this, I came to more deeply understand the student experience and how learning transfers from high school to college.
